Computer kiosk installed at welcome center
Berea Touism Director Belle Jackson accounced that arrival of he first piece of the Kentucky Artisan Heritage Trail (KAHT) project - a computer kiosk that was installed this week in the Berea Welcome Center. Jackson made the announcement during Tuesday's meeting of the Berea City Council.
Jackson said the kiosk houses the KAHT Web site, and will allow visitors to tailor personal driving tours of attractions over a four county area - Madison, Rockcastle, Estill and Jackson. Tourists can peruse interactive online maps and even print out an itinerary for their trip.
The Web site currenty features over 100 businesses in the region, including craft shops and studios, historical sites, restaurants, bed and breakfast inns and many other area attractions. That list is expected to expand to invlude businesses all over the state, according to project developers.
Jackson said the new kiosk would eventually be moved out to the Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea when the facility opens in 2003.
