At that point, City Councilman Ken Gastineau addressed the board, noting that the Kentucky Artisan Heritage Trail and the city's willingness to accommodate artists could significantly impact the future of the arts and crafts industry in Berea.

"In the driving tour we want people to participate, yet the situation prevents them from doing that," Gastineau said. "I think it's very desirable to have working artists in Berea. At the Artisan Center, if we tell tourists that there will b e working artists and there aren't, they may not come back."
