Cheryl Moorhead, director of the Eastern Kentucky University Center for Economic Development, Entrepreneurship and Technology, said that some local merchants were concerned that the artisan center could draw business away from shops and studios in Berea itself. So Moorhead spearheaded a project to develop the Kentucky Artisan Heritage Trail. With a kiosk in the new center and an inviting Web site, KAHT will allow visitors to tailor tours of artist studios, shops, and attractions over a foud-county area. Eventually, the database will be expanded to include artists across Kentucky and will enable independent artisans to promote their businesses ina cost-effective manner.
