EKU boosts Kentucky tourism

Cheryl Morehead Stone, director of EKU's Center fo Economic Development, Entrepreneurship and Technology explains to Jim Mullins, '71, how the newly launched Kentucky Artisan Heritage Trails project and associated Web site (www.kaht.com) will help promite his Estill County business, Mountain View Pottery. Mullins' business is one of dozens in Madison, Estill, Jackson and Rockcastle counties that are featured on the site, which promotes cultural heritage tourism opportunities in the region. The site showcases via interactive maps the area's natural scenery; craft shops; galleries and artist studios; historic sites, homes and businesses; bed and breakfast operations; regional resaurants; events, festivals and other potential tourist attractions. The pilot project, which organizers hope can be replicated throughout the commonwealth, was developed by CEDET through a $64,643 grant from the Appalachian Regional Commission that was doubled by matching funds and in-kind contributions from a variety of public and private sources.
