1. Please describe your business. What makes it unique?
My business is a bed and breakfast and cabins located at Cave Run Lake just outside of Morehead. It’s a beautiful country setting that offers hiking, mountain biking, boating, kayaking, canoeing, antiquing, or just enjoying the peace and quiet. My lodging offerings are 4 one-room cabins, a two-bedroom cottage with fireplace, and a large deluxe suite upstairs in the inn with a whirlpool tub. All of my lodging is available with or without breakfast.
2. How did you get started in this type of business?
I’m a musician and I bought this place two years ago when I saw it listed for sale online. I stayed in inns and B&Bs when I traveled and I always remarked to the hosts that “I can do this”. So here I am doing it and having a great time doing so.
3. How do you market your business?
I have had some brochures printed up and will occasionally do a magazine or newspaper ad, but my biggest marketing tool is the Internet. I’m dog friendly, so that certainly helps. I have no idea how small businesses made it before the internet came into being.
