New With KAHT

KAHT Presents at 2004 ARC Fall Conference

The Appalachian Regional Commission held its annual Fall Conference in Abingdon, VA October 13-14. The theme for this years conference was “Building on Appalachia’s Assets”. The program showed how communities can identify and leverage natural assets and local heritage to revitalize their economies. The program demonstrated that scenic mountains, rivers, forests, music and crafts could be leveraged to build strong and sustainable “asset-based” economies, bringing jobs and prosperity to rural communities while preserving their character.

KAHT was asked to be a presenter for a session on “Promoting Creative Economies”, which focused on real models of success that help local arts and crafts businesses thrive and promote cultural and ecological resources as visitor attractions. We were pleased that Dr. Kathy Werking and Tara Simpson from EKU were able to represent KAHT in this exciting event. Tourism professionals and groups from around the country were present to learn about the cultural heritage tourism businesses and artisans of Kentucky.

Riding the Waves!?
KAHT has been riding the air waves all across Kentucky. Don’t be surprised if you turn on your radio and hear about the Kentucky Artisan Heritage Trails. As part of our marketing mission, we are using the Kentucky News Network to access 89 stations and reach people across the entire state. This is an excellent tool for raising awareness and attracting tourists from Kentucky and bordering states. Additionally, we have been interviewed for several radio talk shows. These usually air during the morning commutes, so we hope to entice many travelers to our trails. You never know where we could pop up next, so keep listening.
