Kentucky artisan program honored
The Kentucky Artisan Heritage Trails (KAHT), a cultural heritage
tourism and business development program offered through the Center
for Economic Development, Entrepreneurship & Technology (CEDET)
at Eastern Kentucky University was recently honored during Kentucky's
state ceremony to celebrate the 36th anniversary of Earth Day.
The Kentucky Environmental Quality Commission (EQC), the League
of Kentucky Cities and the Kentucky Association of Counties joined
together for the first time under the umbrella of Earth Day to
honor 12 community initiatives that exemplify the heart and spirit
of Earth Day and demonstrate the positive benefits when communities
support job growth, environmental stewardship and social equity--the
three pillars of sustainability.
''We are truly grateful to the EQC for recognizing KAHT's contributions
as a reflection of sustainability for our region," said Cheryl
Stone, executive director for CEDET. "To be recognized among
an elite group of community initiatives is an honor."
Faculty members, staff and students from EKU and the KAHT project
team were on hand for the award ceremony and presentation.
"This award is not only recognition for [EKU's] efforts,
but also for the efforts of our supporters and participants,"
said Chris Cathers, program manager for KAHT. "We are very
appreciative of everyone's involvement to build upon the momentum
and success of this project."
