Berea road work underway

...

The Kentucky Artisan Center is planned for Berea, and officials say they are expecting a huge increase in tourism and trade.

"It's really perfect timing for all of this work," Stone said. "It is great, and I believe it will help the city attract and keep tourists even longer in our town."

Berea officials have always promoted tourism. Next week, tourism, city and state officials will gather to dedicate the first computer travel guide of special places in Madison, Rockcastle and Estill counties.

The computer guide and Web site is the Kentucky Artisan Heritage Trails pilto project.

"The Web site will feature over 100 businesses and events," said Belle Jackson, executive director for Berea Tourism. "We'll have bed and breakfasts, craft shops, and artist studios. We'll also feature restaurants, natural resources, historical sites and cultural heritage attractions."

A kiosk that features the KAHT Web site will be housed at the Berea Tourism office.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony is planed for the KAHT kiosk at 10 a.m., Tuesday. The ceremony will be at the Berea Welcome Center, located in the L & N Train Depot.
