The Richmond Area Arts Council
annual programming calendar is full of exciting opportunities
and events. Performances fall into one of three categories: The
Stained Glass Series (showcasing professional artists
with Kentucky ties), The Arts Alive Series (presents
national and international professional touring artists), and
The Family Arts Series (performances geared toward
entertaining and educating the entire family). RAAC also sponsors
four large events annually: The Arts Gala Benefit at
the historic Elmwood Mansion in September (entertainment, buffet
dinner, regional visual artists’ display, tours of Elmwood and
children’s activities), The
Jazz Meltdown in February (Jazz, Cajun food, an array
of desserts, dancing), The Derby Eve Event at White
Hall State Historic Shrine in May (buffet dinner, bluegrass music,
artists’ demonstrations and children’s activities), and The
Holiday Art Show and Sale and the Madison
County Holiday Gallery Hop in late November (features
the artwork of members of the Kentucky Guild of Artists and Craftsmen,
and the Kentucky Arts Council Craft Marketing Program).
Under
the umbrella of RAAC is the Regional Arts Education Network (RAEN),
which is also housed in the Richmond Area Arts Center. RAEN offers
Fun With the Arts, an after school and summer arts
camp program to Madison County students, is responsible for arts
programming in 9 counties in central and eastern Kentucky, and
offers teacher development resources and workshops several times
a year to all arts teachers within the Network.
